Event
The Hybrid Nexus | CERN Art and Science Summit 2026 | 19 and 20 November
19.11.26
Venue
CERN Science Gateway, Geneva, Switzerland

The third edition of the CERN Art and Science Summit, The Hybrid Nexus, explores the convergence of particle physics, quantum technologies, and artificial intelligence, and the ways in which these fields extend beyond the domains of science and technology into artistic inquiry.

Curated by Arts at CERN, the Laboratory’s arts programme, The Hybrid Nexus reaffirms CERN’s commitment to fostering dialogue between fundamental research, the arts, and contemporary thought. This year’s gathering draws inspiration from the observation posited by mathematician and philosopher Norbert Wiener (1894 – 1964) that the “boundary regions of science” offer “the richest opportunity to the qualified investigator.” The Summit brings together artists, scientists, creative technologists, and thinkers to reflect on the new horizons emerging from this convergence, and their significance for research and contemporary thought across disciplines.

Through keynote presentations, lecture performances, roundtable discussions, and film screenings, The Hybrid Nexus opens a space to trace the hybridisation of research infrastructures and their potential as fertile sites for experimentation and interdisciplinary exploration. It will consider how the evolving relationships between science, technology, and the arts give rise to new conceptual, formal, and applied approaches, as well as broader questions concerning culture, philosophy, and creative practice.

19 November | 18:00 – 20:30 | Auditorium Sergio Marchionne

Free admission, registration required

The Summit opens with an evening of keynote presentations by leading figures from science, art, and culture, introducing the central themes of The Hybrid Nexus and setting the stage for the discussions to follow.

Speakers include: theoretical physicist Sabrina Pasterski; art critic, philosopher, and curator Daniel Birnbaum; curator, art theorist, and educator Marta Kuzma; artists Wendi Yan and Robin Meier Wiratunga; and CERN scientist and researcher Sofia Vallecorsa.

The event will be held in English, with simultaneous interpretation into French.

20 November | 10:00 – 16:00: Lectures, roundtable conversations and open-floor discussions | 16:00 – 18:30: Film premières | Auditorium Sergio Marchionne

Free admission, registration required

The second day features in-depth lectures, roundtable discussions, and conversations, offering audience members the opportunity to engage with the speakers. The day explores the intersections of artistic practice, quantum science, and artificial intelligence, while critically examining the emergence of hybrid research configurations and infrastructures.

Participants include: Daniel van der Velden and Vinca Kruk, founders of research and design studio Metahaven; artist and creative technologist Declan Colquitt, Project Lead at MOTH Quantum; artists Rosa Barba, Dominique Koch, Martyna Marciniak, and Amanda E. Metzger; curators Marta Kuzma, Lívia Nolasco-Rózsás and Enrique Rivera Gallardo; and scientist Puneet Anantha Murthy.

The day concludes with two film premieres by artists Dominique Koch and Marion Tampon-Lajarriette.
