Does science need fiction? Does fiction still need science? What kind of fictional spaces, and fictional scenarios emerge when scientists and artists collaborate? This conference, in collaboration with Arts at CERN, will focus on the mutual influences between science and fiction through artists and scientists’ interventions and panels. From bio-design to particle physics, we will explore collaborations that lead to different types of outcomes, such as new media formats and new narratives in various fields ranging from interaction design to product design and visual arts.

14:00 – 14:05 Welcome by Mónica Bello, Arts at Cern and Alexia Mathieu, Head of Master Media Design

14:05 – 14:40 On the relationship between science and science fiction with Cassandre Poirier Simon and Marc Atallah, moderated by Anthony Masure, Head of Research Institute for Art and Design (IRAD)

14:40 – 15:10 On research in Particle Physics at CERN with Tamara Vázquez Schroeder

15:10pm – 15:40 On how particle physics and product design with Laura Couto Rosado

15:40 – 15:50 Break

15:50 – 16:20 On science and new media formats with Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller

16:20 – 16:50 On collaborations between scientists and artists with Helga Timko, Rosa Menkman, moderated by Monica Bello
