Lochan Rijal is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist and ethnomusicologist.

He explores the intersection of heritages tangible (location and architecture) and intangible (knowledge and knowledge-sharing practices) in music. A recent Artist-in-Residence at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rijal is leading efforts to build an online ethnographic atlas of Nepali musical heritage.

In 2019, Rijal visited CERN as a guest artist. He presented his research and performed original compositions on the guitar, sarangi, and the Baja, a Gandharva lute he discovered during his fieldwork.
