COLLIDE International Award 2016
The fifth edition of COLLIDE International Award – the first year in a collaboration between CERN and FACT, Liverpool – was granted to South Korean artist, Yunchul Kim. Honorary Mentions were also awarded to Mexican artist, Julieta Aranda, and UK artist James Bridle.
Yunchul Kim is joining CERN for a two-month residency in February and March 2017, as well as one month at FACT, Liverpool for further development of his research and to start a production.
Yunchul Kim is a South Korean artist whose work focuses on research towards new materiality, the artistic potential of fluid dynamics and metamaterials. During his residency at CERN, he will develop his project proposal Cascade, which looks at the possibility of controlling the propagation of light through colloidal suspensions of photonic crystals.
